The son = Johnny
Callahan went to investigate about Johnny and since Johnny told him his mom was alive he believed him and wanted her to know that he's alive so "You (the mom of Johnny)'re son (Johnny) is alive". That's why he was so mad about the lie

I was reading the story the 1000 time and I was in chapter of “your son is alive c.b.” Like the son of who?! I personally had hard time thinking about it, the message have no clues, just C.B. …!!!!!
… and than! The light at the end of the tunnel! This is the message that callahan (that have the surname that starts with B) wanted to send to johnny’s mother! But obviously it came back because there was a grave and not a person!!
