you’re correct, it’s not legal, but that isn’t justification for being as terrible of people as possible while we do it, my guy.
and i didn’t say anything about them not buying raws, i said CLAIMING that you are the raw provider, when you steal another group’s chapter is no good. if they have gotten permission from that group first, the raw provider would be the other group name, not their own. other sites will even take down their chapter if the other group decides to report it.
i’m speaking as someone who does do (you’re correct) illegal scans for multiple groups, and there are certain ethics most of us try to follow (getting re-tl permission from other scan groups, giving proper credit, buying and promoting raws/official tls, not sniping, stopping tls when officials come out, etc).
it’s okay to hold other people and yourself to a higher standard even when doing bad things.
I think the same can be said to you about assumptions? Although OP could've put it in a nicer tone, I don't think they credited the original group anywhere (unless I'm missing something). From that alone, I get a hunch that they might've stolen it. If not, it's all good then. I work in scanlation teams as well, and the OP has a strong point about the whole raw provider part too. Why list yourself as a raw provider when it's someone else's?
It's their first time doing this, so I do want to give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I think they should learn to credit properly (or at least briefly mention it).
It’s not really appropriate to claim you have a “raw provider” when the chapter was clearly stolen from a Vietnamese scan group.
