Yeah but she wants to be the 'battlefield photographer'. Obviously this is a very flawed theory where she might be against abortion but it is obvious that she never intended to keep the baby.

I think the friend deliberately got pregnant so she could give them a child. You can see from a lot of her expressions and sometimes her dialogue.
It seems she looked after the child so it is old enough to not rely on a mother's milk and then she took off just like that. If it was accidental pregnancy she probably would have had an abortion because it's very evident that she wants to be the 'battle field's photographer. But there's also a chance that it was accidental but then she thought of giving it to them because she can't have children.
I think something may happen to her as well...
