it's probably just the translation sucks. I'm pretty sure she's not an empress is but the 4th queen and his son is just a prince (not crown prince).

As the title states, I thought she was brought in as the fourth Queen, and another woman was the Empress. However, by chapter 31 she was suddenly put as the Empress. Could someone explain, because I’m definitely missing something.
