Au contraire, I think Diana got the ending she deserved. She was alive, she was well... But she became totally irrelevant and is made a mockery of what a Queen and a Saintess shouldn't be. She is a divorcee in a society that blame the woman for that. She has to live her whole life in the place she deserved from day 1. A convent in the church she "liked" so much, becoming bitter and bitter every day while everyone else is famous, happy and well. Just thinking about it give me the creeps xD
This is the best ending for her. Her own life is her prison.
