Pretty sure at the time he thought Etienne was a willing participant in his mother’s schemes and not a victim as well. At least that’s what I got from their interactions. But either way, I just don’t feel right judging someone’s cowardice dealing with someone whose entire existence is a reminder of my rape. He is a coward but he’s also traumatized.
