I think because cults are a bigger problem in Korea. Saw a news report that the number of (people in) cults is quite large compared to other countries that are similarly developed

Idk if it's normal in Korea bec I have seen many plots with side-story/main tricking ppl to go to church, turn them into extremists and do some shuddy things there (especially Korean slash drama). Not really see that type in Chinese BL (possibly be most cn are Buddhist or taoists idk) ngl those plots are very creepy yet interesting.
