I read the comments kept mentioning the author was preparing a story that had a bad/sad ending, I bet this one might be it (I'm kinda hoping for a sad ending because I need to suffer more and I've been reading too many happy ones)

just look at the cover its definitely sus i bet that's the end part, but ofc sad ending would be devastating for our ml if that mc will left him twice

I think the MC will die due to either the ML hurting him or what you said, losing all the candy and maybe after that the MCs heart beats too much and tells ml he loves him and then he bursts into water (this would be horribly depressing)
