I've been wondering lately.... Who the absolute unhinged son of a nice lady who decided to name the first mold after a freaking fungus ?

He is the enemy of every tired person whose first language isn't english. Had to read your comment three times and my brain was trying hard to create this new expression.
So according to my brain, breaking the mold (as in fungi) mean deviating from a shitty cliché.
    What a waste of braincells.

    I'll go to sleep now

You’re right that mold is a type of fungus but it also has a separate meaning. In this case mold is referring to a mold used to create an object. Such as a plastic, ceramic, or rubber mold. These are used to create complex objects that are too time consuming or too hard to make by hand. Since a mold has one shape it can only produce one type of product. So the phrase “breaking the mold” means to put an end to a restrictive pattern of events or behavior by doing things in a very different way. If it’s still hard to understand it’s very similar to the meaning of the phrase “breaking stereotypes”. Hope this helps
