in korea yes. some other asian countries have adapted it too, it's just beginning to take root in mine. it has a nice, shiny facade and all, but all it is is a boot camp to tie you down to the company. it's the toxic phrase "we're all family here in this company!" taken to dizzying extremes. samsung is an example. it's ridiculously laughable that they do all this when it's mostly a cesspool of nepotism and sycopanths.
there's a couple of korean articles and reviews here and there, but you won't catch most of it on popular media because it's a system championed by conglomerates to keep funneling loyal, underpaid workers to their companies.
