I think it was because Helena finally understood why she got to where she was (being the empress) and realized that she wanted to do everything by herself now since she was being supported her entire life (By Alecto)

She was cold towards the the current emperor but she is still the Helena who feels, she is just more open minded and her eyes has finally been open from the things that was hidden during his relationship with the current emperor
The way I see it, she never loved Alecto romantically. She was close and kind to him because that's what Alecto wanted and she couldn't disobey orders from someone in a higher position than her. She just didn't want to clash with her mother's instructions and the royal family. It was later when Eris brings up needing power to do what one wants (ch 46-47) that Helena decides to become Empress even if she doesn't love him.
I loved this story very much. I think it has the perfect ending for everyone. But there's something I dont understand, maybe I'm dumb... But why did Helena turned to be so cold at the end? I think I didn't understood her character very well... Can someone explain it to me?
