Mari’s family isn’t talked about much, honestly I feel like his parents probably had the talked in regards to him being adopted and about his mother, Mari probably knows that his friend is actually his dad too, but he doesn’t seem like the confrontational type. He also doesn’t seem to bother with making friends his age, it kind of makes sense that he went into the hobbies of his bio dad to get to connect with him more without the pressure of telling him that he knows about it. Plus the father wasn’t selfish, it’s hard to raise a child specially after the loss of a spouse. He was grieving and would have only put the child to suffer, it takes a lot of courage and the fact he never disappeared showed that he wanted to be there for him, he just wasn’t mentally able to. If he had raised him he could have probably resented him growing up and blamed him, that’s just what it happens with a grieving parent that has to raise a child which needs attention 24/7.
But that’s just my thoughts, unless the author talks about it we probably won’t know.
nah bc Maris bio dad rlly just decided to let his own kid not know about the existence of his wife that DIED. like I feel so bad for her, she died and because her husband was a lazy ass her kid has no idea she existed
