Look it's just me griping

But sometimes the uke, seme dichotomy is so tiresome like even to the point that certain physical features are associated with a certain label. Like in here, the love interests nips are flat (in some mangas they are even non existent) but the mcs are out and plump like huh? Same goes for smol dicks often assigned to those who bottom and big dicks to those who top. I really wish authors were more diverse with how they draw bodies man and stop associating certain body features with annoying neko/tachi labels.

I get what are saying but also I think that sort of thing can be chalked up to personal preference

there are plenty of authors that draw different body types for different roles. Like it's not at all uncommon to have beefy/more muscular/taller bottoms in the genre, I think largely mangakas are drawing what they personally find hot or appealing rather than simply prescribing to labels. If that makes sense.???

Idk man if you've been in the yaoi space long enough, you'd know how these types of tropes have been prevalent for so long. Though I must say, as the years passed, we got more different body types from new authors.

Exactly! And it depends on the readers too. In my opinion there's something for everybody in the BL world.

I don’t disagree remotely. However, in this one instance, I think we can attribute at least a little to their animal characteristics. Probably?

If we go by that logic, aren't most male horses naturally well hung? Then, it would make sense for the horse beastman mc to have a big dick, but by the looks of it he got a thin bendable lightstick.

Unfortunately yaoi has always just been shoujo with two guys. And that has carried on up to now, even with the small bit of diversity we get now. It is just a reflection of what the market wants and what sells.

Oh 100%. Honestly a missed opportunity.

Yes, truly! Let me also share one of the stereotypical things in bl webtoons that bothers me both from the side of the authors and readers because I think it's related to your comment too. (I'll try to make my explanation understandable because I'm bad at organizing my thoughts. Please bear with me. )

It always rubs me the wrong way when certain authors make tachis so offended when nekos ask them to try bottoming or when none of the lead characters want to bottom. Like I get that these are simply sex positions and of course, they have the right to refuse not to try it but the way that type of scene has become a stereotype in this genre just makes me raise my brow. It feels like the authors equate bottoming to as a form of weakness because of how the sexual position is often tied to the unspoken belief that it indicates being submissive in bed and in the relationship like the conservative ideology of how patriarchal society expects women to be.

This is also my guess as to why many readers refuse the possibility of tachis being switches. Because it makes a top love interest (who are mostly portrayed as manly, many dudebros) look less masculine/weaker in their eyes because he has taken on the "woman's role" in sex so he loses his appeal to them.

I know some ppl might brush off this blabbering of mine as "It's not that deep." But I really do think this part of the bl genre should be examined in a closer lens because idk sometimes it lowkey reeks of misogyny.

For me it’s a mixed bag because I do find the extreme split between who bottoms and who tops to be a little tired, I also know that this happens in real life too. I know many gay men that exclusively bottom. So for me it’s not just being strict about the positions. The submissiveness down to doing absolutely nothing in bed to please their partner does bother the hell out of me.

Like at least we’ve seen tops become more open to fellatio and eating ass. Bottoms are still just one dimensional onaholes that just lie there, cry, and take it. Half the time they don’t even look like they enjoy it.

My point is that yes, I would love to see more couples that switch, but more than that I would like to see two characters enthusiastically enjoying their roles without being subject to needing to be ultra masc (tops that don’t blush) or ultra submissive!

Anyway yeah I don’t disagree with you, just was giving my take on it too lol

No dw it's nice hearing someone elses take on this. Man, I get what you mean, especially about the neko part. I think I've only come across a few stories where they are assertive and also open about feeling pleasure.

Sometimes the trope of nekos saying no,no,no in bed, teary eyed, and telling tachis to stop but the tachis says but you're lying to yourself, you like it don't you? Is so tiresome already. I do get that the dubcon is a form of kink for some but... ugh I wish I can explain what's on my mind about this better lol.

And the super stoic tops too, they are such a mood killer for me. I think one of the few characters done right for the stoic top trope is Ahjuicy from the dangerous convenience store. It gives me butterflies whenever he looks at Euijoon like he's his whole world.

I believe I read somewhere that the “no, no” thing was more of a cultural thing than a dubcon thing but I don’t think I’m allowed to link anything so I’m not gonna bother looking it up. Lmao. Something to do with the reserved nature yadda yadda. Take it with a grain of salt regardless lol. But sometimes it’s also used to display oversensitivity or the bottom being overstimulated so they start saying no

I actually love stoic tops but specifically the type that Ahjuicy is. Super stoic but also super in love is suuuuch a treat. Honestly DCS shows that the tropes themselves aren’t a problem, but the genre is so saturated with artists that just make the characters carbon cutouts of whatever sells. I see this happen in those stupid top vs top stories the most. As soon as the so called “ultra playboy top” bottoms he immediately becomes a reserved virginal whimp. Hate that.
