But honestly I think he's only considered a suspect after the murder of his wife maybe he's the only person who was there who could've done it so they trying to half assed solve the case by making him serial killer!! However your theory would've made sense if the sister hates her brother otherwise it's not make sense that she kills for her brother and make him out to be the killer! Still it would've sucked if it were true, I kinda like her so far!

I didn’t think our boy did those crimes. The moment he told her about the restaurant situation, I realize who it might be. He was with two other people at that table, his sister and stepmom. Stepmom seems to suck. The only person who cares for our boy is the sister. It makes sense. If you think about it too, all the connections he has she has as well. Plus if you think about it, she loves her brother. In the OG novel, he gets married to our girl but what if sister didn’t like her and saw how she was gonna make her brother miserable. Again this is all speculation. I never read the novels or anything. I just always suspect the innocent character, the one you least expect and hidden in plain sight.
