I was with you up until you said he couldn't have prevent dietricks ambush... Like yeah he could've, that was the entire plot point, that he purposefully used his past memories to stage dietricks death and isolate the FL. He was literally a commander, and stationed Dietrick alone where he knew dietrick was going to get abushed. I feel like they're pretty equally messed up, but if the ML didn't attempt to kill Dietrick and manipulate the FL into loving him, none of this drama would've happened. He had multiple chances to come clean and lied everytime. Also idk abt her grooming him, she always treated him like a child that she had no romantic feelings for until the ML gave her the revenge she wanted and she caved, after the ML grew into a young adult. Still, their relationship is beyond messed up and they're both awful ppl
Im not sure where it says he was commander over Deitrich? I reread chapters 12-20 of the war arch trying to find it and all I could find is a conversation where will and rein discuss will taking orders from the glencia heir. Dietrich was his superior up to the war and mentioned as one of the highest ranking knights in the kingdom so idk why that would change in the middle? He becomes the commanding “knight” of luden’s army when they are absorbing territories but he also is originally summoned to the capital because he was never officially knighted? So he especially wouldnt be commanding over Dietrich who is knighted? But if there is a flashback I’m forgetting, feel free to share it.
It’s admittedly a matter of contention where exactly he regains his memories. Rein thinks he’s lying about when he remembers based on second hand observations of his behavior and maybe he is, but it doesnt change that he still doesn’t have total control over the war effort. He’s just a soldier, as far as I can remember, and barely more than a child. I couldnt find any evidence that he was who stationed Dietrich to that outpost. Even if he did remember, there is no guarantee he could save Dietrich. And based on the scene where the female soldier gives him Dietrich’s strip of the blue sleeve, he’s surprised/appalled by Dietrich’s death also, even if he gets a twisted sort of relief from it.
I also don’t think it matters if she reciprocated his romantic feelings to make her a groomer. She was well aware of how he looked at her, used it to her advantage, and despite all of Dietrich’s warnings about how it would negatively affect him, continued to put herself into a position of Will’s savior and the only person he had to rely on even prior to him regaining memories of his past life. She groomed him with the full intention of using him as a tool and even he says as much to her which she doesn’t deny. She thinks it to herself constantly and admits to it when he shares how he was treated by the royals in his past life. Grooming doesn’t just mean she was being romantic toward a child, it’s a long form of manipulation to build a relationship to use and exploit a child for sexual means *or otherwise.* In this case, we’re talking about the otherwise.
Thank you unu
I think I’m just frustrated because of the disappointment. I loved them so much when they were unhinged and plotting revenge together. And at multiple points Rein’s internal monologue expresses guilt that she might be using Will, not to mention her whole monologue to him in their past life about him not just being a tool, but when she throws him away so callously, it really does just feel like he was just a tool to her to be used and thrown away when he’s no longer convenient.
Nah I dont care what stupid metaphor the author tries to use, it’s impossible to feel like she’s the caged bird in this situation knowing she was perfectly happy to groom and use him for her revenge. So she regrets it now just because he didn’t use his memories to circumvent one ambush when he was a child in a war. It’s just too far-fetched to expect a teenager to prevent the death of his superior in a war that he wasn’t originally a part of, even if he did have his memories at that point. His path had diverged in the timeline same as hers had and how tf is he supposed to remember every little thing and be in control of everything when he was what sixteen? Seventeen? Be so fucking forreal. Maybe he was jealous of dietrich and wanted him out of the picture but even id that’s true, he only has so much influence at that point in the story and she was screaming at him for him for being a child in a war SHE PUT HIM IN. Not to mention, she should have reevaluated herself when she found out dietrich wasnt even dead.
She’s holding a grudge and being petty at this point and honestly it just sounds like she’s humiliated because she thought she had all the power over him but was wrong. She’s just butthurt she doesnt have all the control. Not to mention taking it out on the kid who did nothing wrong. She should have just aborted it if she didn’t want the responsibility of raising his child. She disgusts me. It’s not even that I think he’s innocent. They are both messed up and when they were villians bound for revenge together it was really cool, but now she wants to play the victim and act like he’s done some great crime against her for daring to be on equal footing to her. It feels like they put this scene that alludes to him assaulting her to make readers feel like she’s the victim but she literally created this whole mess in the first place. And then she kisses him on the cheek and cries about leaving him? I’m SICK of her.
