Are you sure ? Latest raw suggests that they are not same person at all. The boatreaper is revealed to not have identical appearance, and only hinted to use something identical to illusion to mislead MC.

It looks like ML in his past life was an asshole who tried to kill MC numerous times. Even MC's adoptive father looked the other way when he basically tried to kill him. I don’t think I can accept him as a ML after knowing this. Bitch ruined his life.
