I just don’t understand how MC’s royalty but a duke who is a lesser aristocrat can forcibly imprint on the royal prince and have his way with him without repercussions? Couldn’t he just be killed or made an example of going beyond his station? Why even have the MC be a prince of he doesn’t wield any useful power? Other than his occupation and appearance meet a trope and author probably just liked.

My theory is that the Duke, being the regent for some years (implicitly explained), have more political power than the prince. And forceful imprinting him would probably be put under the rug by the majority of the Nobles (because their interest is not being damaged). But it's still too early to say whether the author have some plot or this is just smut ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭

Not if the said Duke has military power or more sway in the political affairs which it looks like. The way the Duke conducts himself, he isn't affraid of any repurcussions. And I wonder how killing tge Duke could affect the Prince now that the Prince has imprinted the Duke. Duke honestly feels like one of those scumbag alphas who has multiple partners just bc he can. He probably forcefully made many omegas imprint on him one sidedly so he can reap benefits off them.

Mostly Dukes are more powerful than crown they hold large area and military, political powers that's why prince and kings are mostly stupid and powerless against dukes has no choice but to be befriend with them, crown play symbol of faith believing among people while Duke work behind. But who knows how author wanna make it in this story.
