If caught off guard, tripping over your own feet because they’re pulling you, and definitely not stronger than the other person, sometimes even if you struggle you can’t always break free. And she did tell him no, multiple times. That’s a sign of character building.
Bullying in schools in Asian countries is sometimes on another level compared to places like the US, so they’re really tapping into it for this. But otherwise … this is something that unfortunately does happen when a guy just won’t take no for an answer. It’s also a setup for her learning to rely on the ML because (iirc) dating is still new to her and she usually just relies on her friend when she needs advice or help.
I’m not saying what he’s doing is okay, but his attitude is sometimes VERY common in high school boys who think they’re the shit.

Yeah, it's hard to speak up for yourself in situations like these. I can't help crying while explaining myself if I were in her situation. I would even cry anxiously just to properly explain my thesis, and I'm not even someone who cries when they're in pain, only in really anxious situations like in front of a crowd of people or being force to do something I don't want and having to say no to people I'm not really friends or close with
Honestly, reading some of these comments makes me wonder if y’all remember how difficult it is to speak up for yourself not only harassing someone the way Takahashi is, or how difficult it is to bring it up to your partner when you feel like YOU are somehow in the wrong.
Being a quiet person with a mellow disposition like the MC is not easy when dealing with frustrating situations such as Takahashi being a bitch and not taking no for an answer, or being bullied by your classmates. It is not easy, and yes I know it’s a trope that’s a beaten horse, but like … I remember having such a difficult time just like her because I was quiet in school for the most part. It takes time to build your backbone and learn ways around social anxiety, it doesn’t just happen overnight.
Is she a doormat? Yeah, kind of, but she’s a TEENAGER that’s still learning. Yes it’s shoujo, so she’s gonna be a little more air headed in the beginning, but she’s slowly growing, which I prefer in younger characters because it’s more realistic. But that’s just not everybody’s tea, and that’s okay ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
