I think that even though most fans are from BJ Alex, the artwork would be more than enough to attract a lot of people and the chemistry from dan and jaekung in season one is also enough to hook readers into this series. Its unfair to compare this to something thats already completed (=・ω・=) I cant wait for the potato and heesung side story too!
lmao i totally get that, but rereading jinx it feels like it hits every single story beat of BJ Alex one for one. The same people waiting for the seme to get a concussion would be rooting for him to win the ukes heart as the story progresses. Also the uke has money problems and got assaulted so it makes a lot of sense for him to act the way he does ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
If Dan really was a doormat, would he have resigned without anyone telling him to? Also in BJ Alex, Alex kept pushing Don-Gyun around for sex that made him uncomfortable. The only diffrerence between the Ukes between the two manhwa is that Dong gyun had a good support system, but Dan is for the most of his life alone except for his grandma, his only motivation this season. Jaekung is more stronger and lowkey manipulated Dan to do whatever he asked of him though money and appealing to Dans sense of duty to help Jaekung for saving his life, even at the cost of himself. That makes him an easy target of manipulation rather than a doormat. With season 2, after his grandmother passed on, I think we're going to find Dans personal motivation change and focusing on respecting himself which will help him be at more of an equal footing with JAekung (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
Of course he’s a doormat — that’s his character trope for 90% of the series. There are plenty of likeable or interesting doormat characters in fiction, it’s just a character archetype. It’s his blandness and lack of personality that’s really unfortunate. Anyway hope he at least gets interesting in S2.
Lets agree to disagree, but Dan is hardworking (the time he wanted to by a gift for jaekung and took on part times jobs to make money), meticulous (his notes for jaekung for the next physician to refer to) and thorough in his job, looks out for everyone (when he helped out potato when everyone just ignores him) good at games and most of all the people he loves, hed go through hell and high water for them. I think thats the opposite of a doormat rlly. ╥﹏╥
You just listed reasons showing why he’s a doormat character — he does things for others without question to the point that he gets taken advantage of. I am talking about character tropes and archetypes, not doormat = bad character. It’s possible to make interesting doormat characters, I just don’t think Dan is an interesting one.
Choosing to be kind and selfless in a world that prioritises taking advantage of other people for their own self interests is the strongest thing anyone can do, so I know for a fact Kim Dan is the farthest thing from a doormat. Again, he left his job as soon as he found out he didnt need to make so much money for his grandmother, and the disrespect he faced from jaekung. I think you're reading Kim Dan's character wrong imo, and you dont really know what a doormat actually is
Again you are thinking about doormat in terms of being one = a bad character. I am literally talking about a character archetype as a trope. See: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ExtremeDoormat
I’ve never seen a BL be carried so hard by an author’s previous series because I really don’t think this work would be as infamous as it is if it wasn’t for how it’s made by the author of BJ Alex.
Anyway, I don’t give a fuck about the main couple or the season 2 redemption arc lol give me the potato side story already.
