Especially in a capitalistic country like U.S.A

Surgery that complex plus hospital fee, ambulance fee, examination and other side medical expenses can go up to 100K sometimes more.

USA is not insane. I will always remember the day (after I asked countless time if my assurance would cover for it and how much it would cost me) I received the bill for simply doing a blood test after being contaminated by a bleeding person. 1400 in total just check if I had aids and hepatitis. 700$ was just for showing up at the hospital. Then it was 100$ per blood test.

I can’t comprehend how US people can tolerate this medical system.

(for info, I come from a country in Europe which have universal healthcare and where your tax pay for most of your medical bill. When I had to get my back surgery (after my experience with the us medical system), I flew back to my country to get treated.

In US, just the surgery would have cost me 15000 and I didn’t have insurance. To that I would have needed to add anesthesia fee, room fee, nurse fee, medicine and specialist eximanation. Plus the fee for the follow up check up. Which I couldn’t get an accurate price on.

In my home country all of this cost me 100€ (the part that couldn’t be paid by the healthcare). I got my surgery, proper hospital care and even a home nurse for the two first month to change my bandages and make sure I was healing properly. I got bedridden for 6 months after that until I was fully healed. I would never had been able to properly recover if I had undergone that surgery in the US because I would stressed over paying of my debt from day one. )
