He probably had to drop out to take care of his siblings -can’t remember what happened to the parents? - and then he suddenly has to find a way to support all 4 of them w/out dealing with loan sharks. He’s kind of between a rock and a hard place. Gambling is bad! But I imagine it sounded like a godsend to a 16 yr old
And it really wasn’t his fault he is in jail this time. That rat b@stard of a friend really screwed him over. He was most likely expected to die :( I didn’t realize he’s only 19
