In the novel the diary didn't mention the poison or marital r**e. Her mother seemed to have been pregnant when she married, but seemed to have miscarried, so fritz and FL are related bc scum dad is father. (Yeah I was hoping that FL was sired by her mom's first love)
The scum dad was looking at way to get his title back from Fritz and was looking at marrying one of the daughters and didn't care which one as long as he got a son. This was wake-up call to both sisters bc their dad didn't care which one married, as long as alliance was created.
