She was a girl to begin with, so questioning it is pointless. It’s not like the author created a boy a changed their mind halfway through; it was clear she was a girl from the beginning. The fact is she’s choosing to be a guy for a specific reason, which clearly has something to do with the fact that she’s staying away from the church. And it’s not about “pushing romance” either. The story has always been about Helmut learning to be a normal kid. Romance is part of life.

hayst! i was really hoping for some brotherhood type of relationship where they fought and understand eachother, you know the companionship and the relationship buildup like batman and robin especially hemlut is on the swordmaster side while alea is a magician. its just a click from the start, then sudenly hes a girl? lmao i was shocked for a while, honestly thinking bowt what the author is up to. then at the end of the days its just, hashtag “romance is part of life” as well said above lmao hahahaha

Romance is a part of life but atleast with this the story isnt ruined or strayed. I personally love a bit of romance in ever fantasy but its not the same for everybody. As long as the story is still good I'm happy, I rather there be a 1 girl romance than them ending up with a harem at the end which completely destroys stories.

Yes but the way webtoons and mangas are set up is so you know whether what you’re about to read has BL in it or not. I’ve never seen a non-BL where lead characters turn out to be gay for each other. Alea is written this way BECAUSE she is a girl. If she was one of those boys who look like girls, they’d make a comedy out of it. So common sense has nothing to do with the readers’ expectations. That’s just the setup for these types of stories.

honestly speaking i never thought that alea was a girl in the first place, thats why i was really disappointed during the gender revelation part which oviously depicts the development of romance. look at her blushing. gosh! i was taken a back while reading it. secondly, i was expecting no romance trope to begin with regarless if its between alea as a girl or alea as a guy that is. coz this is adventure/action genre guys. no romance on the heads up. you cant blame me with this one. and lastly, just to note, helmut doesnt even know the difference between genders. so why introduce romance? lols!

I’m just gonna say this: there are plenty of action packed BLs. Like a lot. I’m not sure I understand why this is an argument you feel so strongly about. Things are categorized because people have preferences in the things they like to read and in the things they like to create. It makes sense for people who only come here to read action, to whine about there being romance. It makes sense for someone to argue that the romance is important for Helmut to just grow like a proper human being. It makes sense for no one to expect them to be gay when mangas and webtoons have always been categorized so you can read exactly what you’re looking for at any given time. They’re not set up like books, movies or tv shows where anything can happen regardless of the main genre. And even then, when your leads are gay, you can know this beforehand by watching the trailer or reading the book summary. I feel like you’re making this a bigger issue than it needs to be.
