been reading this manga for a while now and its bugging me every time i read the chapters bc him being a netkama is the focal point of the story, but does anyone know korean gaming culture here? do they really take it seriously if youre a guy who pretends to be a girl (and what happens if youre a girl who pretends to be a guy)?

like i just really cant understand being that pissed. im talking about yoona mainly. ok, i get the money thing, but her disgust seems to be mainly directed to mc being a netkama, which i just really dont understand bc its the internet bruh, and its a game, its not really that serious in my opinion. even her ex bf, cant he be classified as a netkama?

ig this is also the reason why i was cringing when seme/ml was mad when he found out mc was a man. i refuse to believe skoreans are that dumb or trusting to not entertain the idea that the person behind their avatar might be of the opposite sex. like, its the internet!!!! u always proceed w caution, esp w relationships made on the internet!!!

idk what im trying to say except that i dont understand the hate for the netkama thing and why uke should always have to feel afraid to be harrassed and shamed by other people for it. i thought the point of the internet was that u get to be anyone, even just for fun

i think being a netkama is more than js playing as a girl character. the stigma is more ab doing it w the intent of scamming a male player or other players for money under the guise of being a girl!

Mc was playing the character in order to scam the ml as revenge for what he did to his guild. This isn’t the level of just pretending to be whatever you want anymore, since it involved real money, even if he gave it back in the end. When you do anything with malicious intent, it’s not weird to get hated for it. Besides, it’s not like the mc really liked acting as a nektama, it’s obvious by his reactions and the fact that he backed off once it got too serious, which can also add to his personal shame.

As for yoona, since she likes the ml I’m pretty sure, or is at least trying to use him for clicks and therefore needs a sustained partnership, it’s that someone is trying to get with “her man” and taking their time with each other away, and to make it even worse, this person is actually a guy who pretended to be a girl in order to deliberately trick the ml, which leads to her disgust. If yoona actually liked the ml (which I think is the case, I haven’t reread in a while), and the mc was actually a girl, I think yoona would still hate mc.

i see, thanks for explaining! to be really really honest, i kindaaa still dont get it, why the hate is on the netkama specifically when the male players are the ones spending money, and in doing so u need to keep in mind the possibility of ppl not being who they really are on the internet, yknow? i kinda also see being a netkama as something strategic to do, but i do see where u are coming from!

my reason for saying why i dont understand the hate for the netkama thing is bc it wouldnt be a thing if the players themselves are not spending the money for others, or rather are not incited/excited by a female player. i keep thinking that what if i was put in the position of being tricked by a netkama, i'd rather just let it be bc i did *choose* to shelf out that amount of money in that moment, and if i did, that means there was some relationship built or interaction that was exchanged, though i also think i'm over simplifying this.

for yoona, i agree w what u said, but reading your reply made me realize that yoona and mc are kinda reverse parallel of each other. mc as a netkama aims to gain something by pretending, but so does yoona w her bribes, except its not really money but more on loyalty. like what i said that there is a relationship built w the netkama, its iffy to say but u're essentially paying them for that relationship/companionship?¿ and yoona does the same w her bribes.
