A thousand times yes, like when translating languages I feel like some words that don't have a direct translation should be left as it is. For Korean to Mandarin, there are more words that could be translated cuz there are more ways to refer to a friend as a sister or brother (noona, hyung, jiejie, gege) which English has, but not in the same way (I don't call my sister "older sister" to her face). Also I feel like the official translators should trust their English-speaking audience more to know that we are familiar with terms like hyung, noona, ect. Even Korean name suffixes, in chapter 25 of the fan translations, Ahjusshi says "Yeo Eui-Joon...Eui-Joon-ah. I think I like you...What should I do?" versus the official translations: "Yeo Eui-Joon...Eui-Joon. I think I like you. What should I do?" The suffix in the fan translation is sooooo important to really feel the mood Ahjusshi is setting up. Attaching 아 (ah) to the end of Eui-Joon's name makes it feel more like he's calling a lover in an intimate way. It's one of the first times (maybe the first time???) he does it and the way he's looking at Eui-Joon makes it feel like he's doting on him when he says "Eui-Joon-ah". It makes Ahjusshi more loving in this scene and so much more domestic, I hate how they leave these out because we are missing lot's of Ahjusshi's unspoken feelings through it.
Or in Spanish to English, a lot of mothers will call their child things like "flaquita" when they are little, it literally means "little thin kid" lmaooo, but when I was little I knew it was a pet name my mom had for me, it sounds like sweetie in my ears lmaoooo, "gordita" as well which means "little heavy kid", but whenever I hear them in movies it feels very loving depending on tone it is spoken with, that kind of thing would be completely lost if it was directly translated into English
Anyone else HATE how in the official Euijoon refers to Ahjussi as mister, like it feels so impersonal and like they dont know each other at all... They could've at least used his name if they weren't going to keep Ahjussi like damn.
