I have read all of it, there’s something about this story I like a lot, it is SUPER morally icky but it’s like the whole point- what’s crazy to me is that it does end on a super high note.
There’s still a lot of angst ahead, but I genuinely love these narrative threads, or like the delivery of these super toxic tropes but somehow ends up in a functioning and loving relationship???
So if you just wanted a vouch, if the “toxic” tropes read is inoffensive to you, you will enjoy this.
The next bit, is basically my unhinged, Crocodile hunter fujoshi nerd doing that whole speech no one actually listens too.
I think it’s the confirmed sociopathy of the top that really intrigues me, and the bottom is super relatable in the funniest ways.
I’m always in it for the characters and how they reflect and interact and fucking just REACT to each other.
These two are genuine literary foils
Peter, is a good boy, raised in by good family. Who would rather be hurt, than allow others to be hurt, because seeing others in pain, is somehow more painful.
But he’s human. So make him awkward, wracked with grief and even act out of character, a passive boy taking radical action. He stalks the source of his teen angsts, supposedly out of vengeance?
But would a sweet boy, really ever want to take vengeance? Is it even in his nature?
ITS NOT.
it was a genuine love at first sight moment for Peter, when he saw Philip that moment of, “that is a beautiful person, and I can’t take my eyes off of you.”
He literally ends up being a super fan,
The only problem is this-
Peter knows Philip is not a good man. It sucks to find out your first crush is also your first problematic fav.
But the most of the problem Philip himself is completely ignorant of. Peter’s best friend was bullied by Philip’s entourage, Peter’s best friend suffered from BPD and parental abuse.
(I have a whole rant about this, but this is America through the eyes of a Korean)
Philip had his own issues to deal with, you see Philip knew he was broken, because his parents treated him as such.
He couldn’t feel strong emotions and he didn’t understand why he had to care about other people’s emotions. But decided to play along, because otherwise his freedom would be taken away. From a young age, the threat of institutionnalisation hanged over his head. (Disability Justice, for all ND folk)
He was too rich and hot to go to jail. So he ran away from the asylum and flash that money maker to an eager Entertainment Company CEO. And became a superstar.
Which only made it harder for Peter to get over everything lol,
Peter is autistic in the sense that he thinks love is magical and takes his attraction to Philip secretly spiritually seriously.
I just take Peter so seriously too, I want to be friend through and through…like I’d jump in and blue ball the top every time if I could but-
The struggle through…felt really worth it. The books feel like a fever dream though. The translations were better than most, but not great and now half the links are broken…weeps
It ends with them basically married in the States not too far away from Peter’s family home, 2hour drive, super home by the beach, and fuck Philip is so whipped but still himself but such a simp and it’s like-
Peter has such strong Host energy, he’s like a Queen somehow. He has a such a Disney princess vibe, but comes out like slay queeeen hahahah jk but not jk
Thanks okay bye
Someone that has read the novel, pls spoil me
