Okay -
Basically, the imperial family (the emperor and empress- princess what not) gifted them, a gown and accessories with an invitation to a royal event, which means they literally have to go because it would be so disrespectful not to go -the garments and accessories they gifted are symbolic of the previous grand Duke, which died (Gloria’s husband) basically the emperor is making a mockery out of them in a sense because they are inviting a new grand Duchess into their family
The imperial family is not so happy about the grand Duchess, because the grand Duke doesn’t want to marry that ugly ass bitch ass princess, who is low-key a rapist
Anyways, because Gloria is heavily affected since that was her late husband
She announces at the end of the episode that she’s going to secure the position of the grand Duchess for the current grand Duchess (Gloria is the former grand duchess - which means she was the previous grand Duchess before Perchati became the grand Duches) basically she’s saying that during the event she’s going to put on a show and make it seem like the whole family, including herself really really loves the Grand Duchess * Foreshadowing to the first two episodes of the whole series* to give the idea to the royal family and the public that she’s truly a part of their family and they could not break each other up
