I understand what you're saying. But Makio doesn't screw him over. He in fact returns the money he borrows from him as well as protects him from other con artists. He just never explicitly said that he loves him.
I figured it would eventually turn around, but I couldn't keep reading. I don't know how many times I told myself it'd get better it wasn't what it seemed the happy end never came for me and I couldn't finish. It fealt like justifying all those beliefs that maybe the person treating you badly isn't as bad as they seem. Like I said it hit a nerve with me, parts I liked and if it weren't for this I'd probably love it
If it bothers you it is deffentetly better to stop reading it. It sort of sucks because the story is good, but it isn't worth it if you feel bad.
