i feel like Dan developed feelings because he take things the wrong way (delulu) like how JK sheltered him and offered him to pay his grandma's hospital bills. JK on the other hand expresses his kindness in that way, but short-tempered and violent, that's no excuse to keep falling in love with someone like him. Additionally, last but not the least, i think Dan is a type to get SO attached to someone he's focused with (including keeping his career by taking care of JK's physique and "jinx")
The comments have said it. Dan's life is shit that a simple act of kindness he assumed it as generosity. So even if JK treated him like shit, Dan only looks at the good part such as oh he gives me a place to live in, he saved from the loan sharks, he paid for his grandma's hospital bill, omg he's so kind! In Dan's opinion, JK is the kindest man (least shitty) in his life. And maybe because the Stockholm syndrome. JK's the only one he gets intimate, that's why. And another reason is, Dan's very low self-esteem

I think it's a trauma response. His brain is trying to focus on thw positive and get attached so that the abuse doesn't feel so horrible. He hates the s3x but his brain tries to rationalize it that it's with someone he at least likes
