There is plenty 'longing' between the characters, but not immediately like most shitty shoujo stories do, this one has them taking their time to develope feelings instead of making them be all lovey-dovey cringey right off the bat.
You could have seen that if you had read more than 3 chapters (again, not ALL authors choose to rush this aspect, so this is something you should judge only after reading more).
In general I suggest you read more than 5 chapters to judge characters and the pace of a story. Because, again, not all authors rush these things and that's why they cannot be judged appropriately within 3 chapters only.

i don't think i will, i don't see the point in forcing myself into liking something if i don't like either of the characters or the way their love is written. i'm not telling people to avoid this manga by any means, i'm just adding my two cents bc maybe someone will appreciate it - what do i know.
also, i should have written it more clearly that my proplem with the 'longing' isn't the lack there of in the way that there's no immediate love scenes - my problem lies within myself: i want the longing to be going on forever, hence why I mentioned Lovely Complex. to me the fl and ml fall in love practically immediately, which isn't my cup of tea. :)

I didn't say you need to force yourself to like anything, you just need to actually let a story start before judging everything that hasn't yet come around. XD
Most shoujo stories have a more quick plot, this one does do a decent job with the pace tho imo. Not too fast, not to quick. It portrays nicely how easy teens fall in love and want to move along the relationship.
But I understand that, if you prefer slow stories, this might not be your thing. Maybe some historical/lady meets prince charming isekai/regression/reincarnation stories might be more your thing, there are quite a lot around that have that type of slow progress you are looking for (posting a Question on the frontpage for recommendations should be getting you some good reads real quick!). Tho webtoons are quite a different experience than mangas, plus many are drama-based one way or another, not sure if you'd like those.

thanks for the recommendation! i haven't found any reincarnation/isekai/etc story that i really like yet, but i'll keep an eye out. most webtoons i've been drawn to have been ones like omniscient reader and stuff like that, the layout of those stories really work well with action, i find. tbh i'm probably gonna keep looking for mangas under the school life+romance+comedy+slice of life tags, bc that's where i've found my absolute faves :)
I only got to the 3rd chapter sadly, I really really wanted to like this. The art style is really cute, and though the entire premise of the manga is cliché, i was hoping for some fun twist on the "fl is a shy people pleaser who isn't like other girls bc she's not obsessed with the ml, so the ml falls for her" trope. The only twist i can think of is that he seems to fall for fl first + he's surprisingly energetic and expressive for being an angry lone wolf archetype.
The thing is - the series is boring. There is absolutely no longing between the characters, they don't get to show off any personality traits - if they even have any, and the pacing in general is just off. Now, I've mostly been reading stuff by the author of Lovely Complex, so I might have a high bar, but i really want to come to like the characters along with the fl - I don't want to just be told that ml is appealing, I want to be in the moment with fl and see his good traits in action.
It's sad that the pacing was so off, because it could have been a really good manga if only the story writing was better!
Anyways, good if you like it, fine if you don't. It's worth giving it a shot, I'm sure I would come to like it eventually if i continued reading, but it just wasn't for me.
