From what I've read, the story is meant to have this really long, swelling build up that brings the characters together before everything kind of comes crashing down and they realize that "holy shit I'm really fucken gay for him omg".
If you've ever read any of Sensei's other stories, you know she isn't afraid of a good sex scene or two or three.
So I think she's really trying to tell a story with a developed plot and in-depth characterizations, a bit unlike her other stories, which are considerably shorter.
Like the poster above, I think there will probably be a catalyst between the two and then BAM!
Ah, yes. Exactly. Looking at this mangaka's other works, there definitely is no lack of a sex scene when needed. She's super good at cat-dog, continuously fighting relationships.
