Don’t forget that Touma had no idea why Sentarou came to Ririko’s place until Ririko told him that Sentarou was dating Ririko. It seems he had no idea that they were even together because he thought that Sentarou had a crush on him back then, which he was obviously correct.

Ririko and satorou weren't even in love, you could say they had a situation ship. Satorou already knew he had 0 chances being with touma back then. So he tried ignoring his feelings and move on, that's why he took the idea of dating ririko because she asked him if they wanna date. Also touma didn't know that ririko was in a relationship with him for a week. Technically you could say ririko is at fault because she didn't clarify what she wanted from this relationship with satorou :) I wouldn't really call this messed up tho, there was just a miscommunication (￣∇￣")
