My guess is grandma died. :(

I kind of always figured that’s what would be a turning point for Dan and JK. Dan only put up with JK’s shit because he felt obligated for the money to take care of grandma. And I think JK had some kind of respect or connection with her, given how polite he was when they met, so I think it might hit him a bit hard too. Also, one sweet thing JK did for Dan, when Dan got drunk at his welcome dinner, was not leave Dan alone when he talked in his sleep saying “don’t leave me” or something like that. So I think JK has a soft spot for people on their own, maybe because he felt isolated growing up, and now that Dan is totally alone it miiiight open up his eyes to his feelings for Dan. Here’s hoping anyway.
