Lucy reminds me of my mom's friend. Her partner keeps beating her, and she sometimes runs away from home just to escape all the domestic violence she's been getting. A lot of ppl already know her situation, and even neighbors have been planning to report her partner, but she told us not to bc she still thinks her boyfriend is not an evil person and that she loves him so much. She said her boyfriend is a sweet person,,,it's just that he's been stressed for quite awhile that's why he keeps beating her. Hearing her situation from my mom broke my heart. I wonder why a lot of people find it hard to let go of people like that.

It’s because they remembered the “good” times when their partners hadn’t resorted to violence. They rationalize it in their head that “it’s not always like this” when the abuse happens. Plus, I think it’s a case of being so involved in a situation you start to think it’s normal. It’s similar to you not realizing your house has a specific smell to it until you leave and comeback. I’m not blaming them, I only feel bad for those in this situation.
