Her original goal was to secure her family’s safety through the princes. But as the story continues, it becomes evident that even she does not specifically know why she’s risking her life so much for the second prince even under the pretext of desiring the protection of her family. This is because something was possessing her mind to do so for the “preservation of the empire.”
The green jewel is the catalyst to the poison that the second prince was supposed to ingest. So the jewel, if I’m correct, would enhance the reaction of the poison. Other than that, the green jewel was simply a fashionable gem hundreds of years ago in this story.
