I assume the author isn't using it in a negative context... a benefit of the doubt

why blame the author? the word in korean was derived from the Japanese word but its not like the author could control that LOL. Apparently there's even a more vulgar way to say catfish in korean but this is already the 'tame' version. It's not like catfish in English has positive context either.

korea is infact, not isolated from the outside world and can still access japanese cultures considering they are geographically close.

if there's something close to japanese, it's often not a coincidence. mangas and animes are a big thing there just as every other country.

the real meaning of okama is 'crossdresser', originally used for trans women, eventually becoming a degrading word for gay men or any feminine man.

that's why i said i hope the author doesn't have any ill intentions cause im 90% sure the author is a woman. what would they know about the struggles and discrimination gay men face?

im not blaming the author, im sure she's just making a pun.

But she's just using the term for catfish (literally the word Netkama is the romanized version of the kanji) in Korean. She didn't control how the term came to be. The original term is a reference to the Japanese word, so they would have to come up with a new word to replace it. It just seems silly to place individual blame on the author when it's a term collectively used by an entire country. It's hard to get people to use a new word, especially if the whole country doesn't see it as problematic.

Tldr; there's no good replacement for the word in Korean atm
