I would believe him. He has proven dedicated and grateful. Mr Champion is the stuck up one here. He deserved the injury.
The thing is Mr Champion is a human garbage and a total psycho and things such as human decency or noticing Dan work is below him "we know you love money" no idiot, he has an extremely sick grandma and huge debts to pay.
Honestly who wouldn't be suspicious of Dan in these circumstances? It's understandable from his perspective
