Since the start she has been trying to protect her son especially from her father. Some important factions are against and if her father involved in treason isn’t handled properly it would reflect on her and her son. The ML may be the king but he isn’t a tyrant like in other webtoons. I guess that’s why this makes things a little trickier.

100% totally agree. they could have kill this duke and swept this under the rug. and with the empress/MC support (being the daughter of the duke), no one would suspect them as the empress can just 'act' and tell everyone why would they kill the duke, he's 'family'. but arghh, they make it seem like the duke is more powerful than imperial family which is so annoying because he's not.
Yeah, right but then again, I think that the queen is too lawfully good. Like she won't dirty her hands but honestly.. I don't think that you should play nice with people that not only want to kill you, your husband but also want to fuck over the entire nation and possibly kill thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people.
I know that the story is written like this so that the cast can overcome the overbearing psycho father lawfully but god damn. The king writes and approves laws in coutries! And if that doesn't work I swear it is so easy to dispose of a person if you are a high ranking individual. You can poison them, have someone kill them, make them suicide themselves, you know the drill, just like the Boeing company did to that one whistleblower lol.
