Spoilers with the ambush I found online:
After the ball ended, the Gallico Duke kidnapped MC and tried to ruin her reputation by tearing her clothes ( he had no intention to r, but to tarnish her reputation that she will have to spend her life in a convent). ML saved her and killed the Duke. They realized belatedly that it will cause diplomatic disaster. Sir Elko helped to hide the body while the couple rushed to Queen's palace for help.
