I feel like right now we're at the stage of (like you said) developing feelings and "the real deal" will begin when the problem with MC's name or whatever is fixed and the reaper will have to collect his soul.

I mean, we have been seeing the reaper’s feelings develop, but I feel so claustrophobic when I read this. Every day is just them sweating and having sex. Plus, the reaper speaks like a stuffy old lady. At least they go outside in this episode but I have no idea where the plot is going. I keep hoping for something, anything to indicate when this weird stasis will end, but it never does.
