i don't disagree with you! i can definitely love some morally grey and evil love interests/main characters! for me tho, the absence of r*pe does not make a story boring!
like i said,.i think i would have liked to see this manipulative mastermind at work, if he would just stop forcing himself on the mc. like, /that/ is not interesting to me! trick and trap him! honey to catch flies and all that!
but i do acknowledge that its just fiction, its just a trope im not really fond of <3
i love a /good/ dark romance! heavy on the good!
a story does not have to be all sunshine and rainbows for me to enjoy it. ive read some really good dark romances, and very much enjoyed them! i just personally am not into the whole r*pe fantasy thing? not my thing. its okay if that appeals to you, or doesn't bother you, its just fiction! but asserting sexual dominace by sheer force and strength is not appealing to me, and not redeemable in a fictonal character!
i prefer a dark romance love interest that is cunning and manipulative, that uses wit to trap the object of their affection, not brute force. i personally prefer it when the mc doesn't even realise they've fallen for a trap and go willingly, and by the time they figure it out its too late!
im kinda concerned that mangago readers dont understand that people can have different opinions to their own <3
From what I remember, Stockholm is related to cases of people who have been kidnapped and have been physically harmed or threatened with bodily injury while being held captive. Because of this threat the victims start empathizing with their captors in order to survive. It is a physical capture.
It's not even food or water but threat of bodily harm.
from just skimming, im mot seeing anything aboit bodily harm actually? its all cognitive dissonance and dependency. even the original case it was named after, the hostages were not harmed physically; just held hostage and then defended the captors from the police when they arrived!
worth reading up on, its really interesting if you're into psychology!
I did look it up after talking with you. Yeah. Maybe new psychological evidence had popped up. Because when I had first learned about it (which had been years ago) it had to do w/ kidnapping.
And maybe the idea had been twisted into the car mics I've read today. I've only ever associated it with situations of being held hostage, rather than forms of manipulations as well. And that physical harm occurred. Maybe that's all theory that authors takes liberty with or I had misconstrued it's meaning. Either way, I don't like series having to do w/ rape in confinement.
Idk what the term to describe hostage/abductions/confinement/ and threats of bodily harm and or actual harm/ being chained up, or isolated physically so there is no way out.
Plots in fiction that use rape as a vehicle to drive the development don't bother me if there's a legitimate cause. I have this sneaking suspicion that the ML here is pissed at the MC and is taking out that anger on him. Not healthy by any means, sure, but it makes sense. Also if this kind of plot isn't your cup of tea there's PLENTY of stuff out there that's different and less "twisted", so people who complain about the rape aspects of a plot are pretty annoying to come across given that they could literally be reading anything else.
i do not think any explanation or tragic backstory could make me like, or even just...be indifferent to this male lead.
like??? there was absolutely no reason to be so... vile and agressive??? to get what he wanted.
like at the crux of it, he's right; noah is very weak to him and unable to stand up for himself, LIKE HE WOULD HAVE WALKED INTO THE TRAP WILLINGLY IF HE JUST PLAYED HIS CARDS RIGHT.
if the ml wasnt so fixated on being this like, enigmatic mysterious, dangerous person and had just approached him like a normal person??? and been like... 'hey, i've suspected for a while you may have been the omega i spent my rut with... is that my son?'
like sure, noah would have been super skittish and denied and avoided it, but if the ml (idc to remember his name) had been persistent, and SWEET TO HIM and then come in with the final blow; "i can get you medication for our son with no side effects, just marry me." IT WOULD HAVE WORKED ON HIM??? HE WOULD HAVE DONE IT???? boom! pow! no r*pe!! no forcing of hands!!
and then we could have had a story about him making up for the way he treated noah in college, (because obviously he regrets it, he just has the emotional bandwith of a stale potato) and them falling in love and becoming a family.
...which is the story we are going to get, in a way... i'll just hate him the whole time! i'll stick around for noah and the baby boy tho<3
