The drama is kind of disappointing. Read the novel. I suggest the translation of excel rebels or whatever they call themselves lol. Unfortunately they removed most ofbthe novel in their website because it gor officially tránslated in english. Still the official translation cannot even compare to the translation of the rebels. I read many fans not pleased with it. Bit research deeply because rebels translation was uploaded in other websites. Whole you decide to read it. I recomment the webtoon and anime.
I just finished watching the drama & I'm pretty confused coz I barely understand the plot. The drama being all about only bromance without hinting too much on the BL side is fine, I think it's perfect that way because of censorship otherwise. I've never watched or read anything that has to do with cultivation before so I was very confused because the concept & setting was so foreign & strange. Then the story unfolded so fast introducing so many characters, I barely had time to tie names to faces, then I learned they all have 2 names! Dang, I'm too stupid to remember all of those! Then the story switched to the past for over half of the entire series' length. By the time it returned to the current timeline I totally forgot where it left off & that threw me off for quite some time. When it got to the ending, I honestly did not understand the true motivation of that evil head of jin clan was. Just to get to the top he had to pin all the blame on Wei Ying? And how is that weak Huaishan found out all about the evil deeds of the head of Jin & set up such an elaborate scheme to drag him down from his throne & get him killed without dirtying his hands? Why did he have to pretend to be weak & stupid, but wanted nothing in return? I don't get his character at all. Did he do all that only for revenge for his older brother? And the final scene too, what happened there? Did they really go their separate ways, or did they go together? I feel like the story was very complex & the progression was too rapid in the drama. It feels like reading the story first maybe a prerequisite if you have no understanding about the context like me. Or, maybe I'm just dumb. I probably will have to attempt reading this someday because I missed too many details in the drama & I feel so confused about many things. I think the story is good based on the things that I do understand. It's just there were so many intricate details & I tend to get lost very easily because I didn't have enough time to digest everything properly. Btw, why is the manhua still ongoing after so many years, does it contain more story than in the drama?
