I’m upset about the author removing the BL tag. I feel like that was a huge part of the plot.

Plus, I already bought two volumes ╥﹏╥

Author basically confirmed it isn’t BL anymore and that Hikaru’s monster thing can’t feel love for him so it won’t be a romance

Source? Because I've seen so many people say this and none of them were able to give me a source.

Idk what is wrong with everyone that they suddenly can’t tell the difference between a gay romance manga and a manga WITHOUT romance but still gay people. Or is the sentiment just that people wanted the kid to fall in love with the monster in his dead best friends body which is…not very realistic and also very sad. I feel like I it was clear the love was only ever going to be unfulfilled. The BOY Yoshiki loved is dead. That doesn’t erase their feelings. It is still a queer story. BL is a very broad genre applied to anything gay in manga because lgbt doesn’t really have a historic precedence in the space as a genre or tag because it doesn’t take gay people seriously, if fetishizes them for straight Japanese women. This is slowly changing across the world so more “bl” tagged lit is going to turn out to just be “lgbt themed” and without romance. LGBT would have been the better tag and probably less confusing for people. If people only want to read about gay people when they’re doing the dirty or making out idk what to tell em. The removal of a tag doesn’t erase all of the very real text that has been telling us how the boys felt about one another when alive. Even if a romance did blossom between fake hikaru and yoshiki, I think we all know there likely isnt a happy end in store. Probably for fake hikaru. So it wouldn’t have happened either way. If people want to see a grieving teen kiss an ancient god inhabiting his dead best friend and love it out of desperation…maybe think about why the author decided that isn’t the story she wanted to tell. We’re going to get a great queer story, so don’t worry! That is NOT being retconned

People are referring to one of the pages in one of the chapters, 20/21/22, can’t remember. It’s a translation of an authors note under a drawing of fake hikaru that describes him. It will be after the chapter in the bonus pages

WAit that note about how hikaru is an eldrich horror that cant comprehend the value of human life so he doesn't have romantic feelings what prompted people to start lying about the author?? God that's pathetic of them

Pretty sure. When I tried to find proof that was the only picture I saw floating around. Otherwise, I would assume they’re talking about the tag being removed from the official release but even that is confusing because nobody has been sharing details about its publishing. Usually it’s published by a group or in a magazine for certain genres so it might have been a thing if it was published in a bl magazine/ group and moved to a diff publisher but I haven’t seen anything like that. As for “removing the tag” if they’re referring by to illegal sites like this, these are not official tags. If they’re referring to Japanese sites that sell the manga that’s the only thing that would make sense. Regardless, the authors previous work was also a horror “bl”. It wasn’t romantic and they didn’t end up together and was a tragedy, but there were feelings between two men so it’s considered bl. In this case, Hikaru is dead…but they haven’t retconned Yoshiki loving him but he’s already dead. I feel like it’s people misunderstanding how these things work and that bl isn’t just used for romantic works but as a catch all term in Japan. Also probably the people that believed Yoshiki was going to fall for a ghost/god/monster inside his dead best friend and love’s body which…not really this authors style.

I think the tag being removed discourse started from "boys love" being removed on mal, because I remember reading the original release since ch2 and it never had a bl or any other romance related tag. This really never had any romance tags on any kadokawa's(publisher) sites, nor on any jp manga selling sites. You can even see for yourself if you plug the ace magazine website(because they release free to read chapters https://web-ace.jp/youngaceup/contents/1000183/) into wayback machine. Honestly if Yoshiki ends up with Hikaru in any way this would be so much more tragic, I don't get why people'd want our boy to just live in constant anxiety over 'hikaru's' unpredictable nature and emotional pain till the end of his days, like??? It does feel like we're reading completely different mangas when I talk to ppl in the comments sometimes. It's annoying that people act as if this is queer bating because there won't be any romance, Yoshiki and Hikaru were in love nothing can change that. Yoshiki still loves Hikaru, he just doesn't love 'Hikaru'.
