Logically in the end he prob would. Also, he might be starting to grow up and the og novel plot is happening sooo the FL changing the genre wouldn't have actually changed much at all in the end. We also know she cares about Astair, and she has just taken steps to prevent herself and the Vesta family from having to side with the ugly bitch empress in fighting Astair.

So far the story has been making a point that things are not like they were portrayed in the book. So it would be dumb to just say the ML is an asshole because of what he did in the book, when lot of things have changed. (Also there are reasons for that but I won't spoil)
I'm honestly really fucking glad FL changed the genre. I kinda feel bad for the pink haired guy but if I was being honest to myself he deserved it. I know he went through a lot of shit and all that but that is not an excuse to force her to stay with him. And we already know how he is in the original novel, who's to say he changed for the better.
