Let Dai question

there was a verse in volume 8 that goes,
"Do not thoughtlessly tear down old walls, were you ever the object of devotion to another heart?"

I'm not very good at understanding poems D: can someone explain what this means? thanks

To paraphrase it: "Don't open old wounds or invade someone's privacy, what makes you think that you're loved enough to be allowed to do so?"

the second line can also be understood as "have you ever been loved enough to understand what is and what isn't acceptable?"

That's just how I understood this piece of poetry on it's own, but I'm not reading Let Dai so the contents may change the meaning of those words.
