She chose him as a fiance just bc she thought he was a playboy from that lifetime when she married Oscar, but she didn't know that he was forced to sleep around bc Oscar was drugging him and taunting him about raping Ines and he slept around to keep Oscar from hurting Ines more. Oscar knew Carcel loved Ines but Oscar hated Carcel. Oscar also remembers the 1st life so he knew Carcel and Ines were supposed to be husband and wife so he raped Ines to hurt Carcel. Why shouldn't I love the ML who literally suffered for the one he loved, helped the painter escape bc he loved Ines and hid his own feelings from her bc he didn't want his feelings to get in the way of her being happy with other men. When she married Oscar, he hid his feelings bc he knew Ines loved Oscar. When Oscar was hurting Ines, he also let Oscar hurt him so that Oscar won't hurt Ines more. But when you're a teenager and the girl you love isn't even paying attention to you, you might as well act as one since he already thought of himself as one naturally, but the only reason he even thought he was one naturally before he became one was because of Ines. If you ever read Ines' thoughts, the one from the raws novel, not the official translation, Ines always go on and on about how she thinks he's naturally a rag anyway so it's fine to keep expecting that and telling him that. More on Carcel's sleeping around. He slept with 10-20 women in current lifetime, never more than once with any of them. There were also things that were already established from the novel such as how he didn't sleep with women who were married or were virgins. He also didn't sleep with women who were not nobles or around his status. There weren't much women of his status around where he works and he doesn't like social events so he didn't go out of his way to do that to meet women. It was just easier in Mendoza. As for what was the reason why he slept around, it was a multitude of reasons. Author-nim said it was also a defense mechanism triggered from past lifetime as the past does seeped into the current lifetime. She also mentioned it was thanks to him sleeping around that Oscar wasn't as active in trying to break their engagement. (This is true as the moment Oscar heard of rumors that Carcel is crazy for his wife, he rushed to send assassins again.) His sleeping around also lowered Ines' guard because she had this preconceived notion of him. There's also factors of how actions are not only subjected from the past seeping to the present but also outside current events factor into it. Author-nim gave an example of how Olga is different because of Ines, so I believe it's to say Carcel acts different based on the same factor, Ines.
As for things about Carcel in different lifetimes, author-nim said Carcel in the 1st lifetime had the darkest personality because of Ines pushing him away all the time. Carcel in the 4th lifetime grew up the least affected from suffering compared to 1st lifetime but he did found Ines scary for forcing him into an unwanted marriage. As for Ines, she grew up knowing her single love and even held onto wanting to die together in the 1st lifetime but in the 4th lifetime, her rejection towards him was the complete opposite of herself in 1st lifetime because of her defense mechanism triggered from previous lifetimes. The thing is that her heart started to love him before she can admit to it, so she was childishly acting against it and it eventually led her to realize she made a mistake. By then, she gave up even denying it.
But cheating is my absolute limit. Doesn't matter if he changed. I will never forget the sight of my man holding and kissing another woman. All this time while reading this my heart ache for ines. Tho it's obvious that Carcel will never like never ever do it again. I just can't. I cant transmigrate in this manwha I'll ruin their marriage lol.
