I saw it as back in the day, Nanmu asked Pil to get on his back. Pil said he was too heavy, Yada yada dialogue. And he carried him on. And this scene was reminiscent of or mirroring a memory from long ago. I can see what you're saying though. Maybe a little more context in between was needed.
