I think they just saw humans as the problem and wanted humans gone for real, but didn't
have the power for it, so they fomented her wrath and thirst of revenge, so she would go berserk and destroy the humans in the continent (=・ω・=)

The way I see it they just wanted to wrap the story up and dealing with the dark entity would mean more chapters so they gave a choppy excuse for it.
So the evil entity was a grumpy forest spirit that needed water so it joined forces with the king of trionfo the very reason why there was a drought in the first place and tormented the only person that could bring rain to the forest …? ┑(￣Д ￣)┍
