If it helps, ive been thinking of the later art style as how hazuki sees naoto? So like super cute and stuff? Whereas the earlier art was naotos view of himself?

And to top it off, one's mental state really do affect one's apperance. When he was struggling alone and anxious about everything he looked haggard while when he became pairs with hazuki, naoto became happier and more assured about things.
