I struggle with DNFing anything I start, and although I understand the sentiment, I find this statement slightly disingenuous. In yaoi, non-consensual themes are often prevalent and oddly accepted, especially when involving the main love interest

That’s great! That's why I mentioned it's strangely forgiven by some. Just looking at the main page of this site, the overwhelming majority of what’s trending is yaoi with SA. Not saying you read them, but even in stories where it makes no sense to add SA, it is unfortunately present, and readers excuse the main ML's actions just because they're attractive. Personally, I find the inclusion of SA in this story unnecessary, but that doesn't improve the writing of the main couple in comparison.

I agree I find it unnecessary aswell which is why for me regardless of writing I don't like the side couple the fact one of them is a sexual assaulter makes me unable to like or care for their happiness as I don't really want to see someone who does that happy icl but I get others will have different opinions on it but yh even if the writing is the best ever the simple fact he sa someone is enough for me to hate it though I do love the main couple so I don't really agree with the writing being better but that's just a difference in opinions which is absolutely fine
